Your
Business Image

Does
your Internet business portray the matching image of your products and/or
service? Has your business website been reviewed by other individuals
within your corporation or network to ensure accuracy of spelling and
grammar?
According
to CIA - The World Factbook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html),
in 2008 the US Internet total host count of 316 million included the
following top level domain addresses: .us, .com, .edu, .gov, .mil, .net
and .org. Therefore; more than ever, Internet businesses have multiple
competitors and for you to be the leader, you must make the extra effort
to ensure your business provides and maintains a professional atmosphere.
While it
s impossible for me to list all the items to be aware of; here are a
few tips that will help you reevaluate or get started on your online
business.
1. Be clear
on what you want to achieve.
Create a mission statement for your business. If you haven't already
done this, here is an excellent resource on how to Create and Use a
Mission Statement (http://www.how-to.com/Operations/mission-statement.htm)
2. Keep
your site simple.
Stick with a basic color for the site background, one that is consistent
with your site's image. A white background doesn't have to be boring.
Don't overcrowd a page with too much information and too many links,
the user will not know what to look at first.
3. Ensure
your site downloads quickly.
It is important to use photos on your site, but it's equally important
that the file sizes are small enough to load quickly on your Web page.
Ideally within 10-30 seconds maximum, preferably 8 or less. This includes
users with slower computers and modems. Base the download speed on 1K
per second, therefore the total file size of a page (including graphics)
should not exceed 30K. To check your download speeds go to: http://www.speedtest.net/.
4. Maintain
an overall professional image.
Your company's web site pages should have the same branding (heading)
across the top of all the pages. This is especially important if users
have entered the site from an external site and need to know what site
they are on. By simply having the same heading at the top of each page
with the basic navigation links, this allows a more pleasurable experience
for your user and they will not get frustrated with trying to find out
more about your company.
5. Continuously
proofread and edit your web site.
Literally thousands of web pages are created every day. However, only
a select few take the time to ensure that their web site is professionally
proofread for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors. However,
the most important factor at a web site is the high-quality of content.
